A smooth and line free brow makes your face look younger and fresher however with age, skin on the brows and forehead tends to lose its elasticity resulting in eyes that look tired and upper lids that look heavy. An easy surgical remedy for this is the forehead or eyebrow lift.
A brow lift is a cosmetic surgery that smoothes the forehead, reduces frown lines, and elevates the position of the eyebrow line and removes excess forehead skin to achieve a younger, more refreshed look. An open brow lift and an endoscopic brow lift are the two techniques used to perform a brow lift; our surgeons at Divine Proportions will suggest the most appropriate technique for your specific case after a thorough examination.

  • A brow lift is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia which could last between 30 minutes to 2 hours.
  • Selection of the technique is based on the position of the eyebrows, amount of excess upper eyelid skin and the height of the hairline.
  • The brow lift procedure typically involves making incisions across the top of the scalp just above the hairline. Then the muscles that cause frown lines are modified and any excess skin or tissues are removed before the eyebrows are lifted to a more youthful level.
  • Another technique involves making several tiny incisions in the scalp, inserting an endoscope and altering the muscles and tissues and then repositioning the brows.

A typical convalescence period for a brow lift surgery is around 2-3 weeks

  • Week 1 – temporary numbness, swelling and bruising and possibly some itching of the scalp is likely.
  • Week 2 – by the end of the first week, all sutures will be removed.
  • Week 3 – Scalp numbness is almost gone however you will still have some itching of the scalp as the nerves heal.

You will be completely healed within a month of the surgery and will have a smoother brow and a refreshed look.

  • Sleep with your head elevated.
  • Do not sleep with your face down for at least 2 weeks post surgery.
  • Keep the swelling down by using a cold compress.
  • Clean the suture line 2-3 times daily.
  • Avoid strenuous activities; you can resume light walking 72 hours after surgery.
  • You can go back to your normal activities including your exercise routine after 3 weeks but avoid strenuous sport activity till after 6 weeks.
  • Avoid excessive exposure to sun for the first 3 weeks.
  • Shampoo your hair 72 hours after surgery.
  • Do not use a hair drier or undergo any hair treatments such as coloring for about 4 weeks after surgery.

You are a suitable candidate for a brow lift if

  • You have sagging brows or forehead skin or tired looking eyes or heavy looking upper lids or deep horizontal wrinkles in the forehead
  • You are in good physical health
  • You are not diabetic or have heart problems
